Board member

Steungroep ME en Arbeidsongeschiktheid • job opening nr. 8641

Interesting about this job

The Support Group ME and Disability is active voluntary organisation, which during its almost 30-year existence has contributed a lot to improving the position of ME/CFS patients. Our advocacy is of a high standard; we have a lot of knowledge and experience. With that expertise, we provide information and advice to several hundred people across the country every year. Our website and newsletter also reach many (ME/CFS) patients and their families. Our home base is a nice office space on the Gorechtkade (the old Groene Kruis building) in Groningen. The board is active and decisive, but could certainly use reinforcements!

What do we offer?

  • You will join an enthusiastic team of very experienced and fun people. We are result-oriented and do not value unnecessary formalities and rituals.
  • You can make an important contribution to improving the position of ME patients.
  • The opportunity to further your education.
  • Your expenses will of course be reimbursed.

Job tasks and duties

The ME and Disability Support Group Foundation stands up for the interests of ME/CFS patients in the areas of work, education, disability and benefits. The Support Group aims to expand the board from three to five members, dividing areas of interest and roles by mutual agreement. The board is supported by a policy officer and two board consultants.

Who are we looking for?

A board member, actively participating at the forefront in one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Lobby and projects to improve the position of ME patients
  • The biomedical research programme: guiding patient participation from the Support Group and participating in the preparation of new research proposals by scientists.
  • Development of a new ME/CFS guideline: internal brainstorming to support our representative.
  • Collaborate in various consultations with other ME/CFS patient organisations

Job skills and qualities

  • You have knowledge of and experience with ME/CFS, e.g. because you have ME or are intimately involved with an ME patient.
  • You want to actively further deepen and educate yourself in one or more of the above focus areas.
  • You are able to provide good input into governance and external referral situations.
  • You are a team player and enjoy taking the lead on some projects.
  • Living in the Groningen region is an advantage, but not necessary.

The roles within the board will be filled by mutual agreement. We especially need someone who wants to take on tasks as chairman or secretary.

Board members can do most of the work from home; board meetings are held digitally or combined digitally/in our office in Groningen, Netherlands. We are used to taking into account limitations due to ME/CFS or from other conditions.
