You meet new mothers and guide them in the choices they make around motherhood.
As a mother, you yourself are a specialist by experience. Mother and volunteer are equal to each other.
Not every family has a network in Groningen, you can help the new mother with this.
Job tasks and duties
- The volunteer is herself a mother of 1 or more children and will visit new families at least once a month to support the mother in her new role as a mother.
- You will also attend an MIM workshop/meeting at least twice a year.
- You encourage the mother you visit to also join MIM activities.
- Your own experience as a mother is most important, but you must be a good listener and easily connect with the mother you visit.
- If you are intiative and would like to go out with the new mother once in a while, please contact the coordinator of MIM.
- For example, you could go for a walk outside, go to the library or attend a MIM workshop together.
- In December, the MIM activities will be organised for the new mother.
- In December, a joint lunch or dinner is organised for the volunteers.
Job skills and qualities
- Be a mother (grandmother) of 1 or more children, because you must have experienced what it is like to be a pregnant and have experienced childbirth.
- Open to visit very different families.
- Single parenthood is also a great experience to share.
- Able to listen well, but also dare to share tips around parenting.
- To be genuinely interested in other families, because every family is different.
- Speak Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin or another language besides Dutch, for example.
- Find a healthy lifestyle important.
- To value another mother and give her a nice affirmation of her choice as a mother.
Extra information
You may also visit a family even before giving birth.
Mothers inform pregnant women.
