Job tasks and duties

If you want to make a difference for schoolchildren and families who are open to an international adventure and other cultures, then this volunteer position is interesting for you.
As a Liaison Officer, you will be the point of contact for:

  • Dutch schoolchildren going abroad (outbound programme).
  • International students and their host families here in the Netherlands (inbound programme).

For the outbound programme, you will make home visits for selection interviews with pupils and their parents. During the exchange year you will also maintain periodic contact with parents of pupils staying abroad.
For the inbound programme you will undertake the following activities:

  • Recruitment of host families in your region, supported from the YFU office.
  • Selection interviews with host families and matching families and foreign students.
  • Supporting host families in the placement of a pupil at school.
  • Proactively liaise with host families, pupils and schools and provide guidance in case of problems.

Job skills and qualities

  • You are flexible, communicatively strong and have a feel for cultural differences.
  • You are committed to another person and able to coach and motivate them, without taking over from them.
  • You do not shy away from a problem and are instead motivated to find a solution. In doing so, you keep the interests of the various stakeholders in mind.
  • You are able to organise your own work independently, but also enjoy working with others.
  • Furthermore, you have international experience or interest, a local network, have a car and speak Dutch and English. Experience as an exchange student or host family is a plus. Having contacts with secondary schools is not a must, but will come in handy.
