With a close-knit team, you can make a big difference for women trapped in prostitution. The Overweeghuis is a citizens initiative and an independent foundation in a shelter for 5/6 women. This foundation was set up because there is no low-threshold (crisis) shelter for these women in Groningen if they want to get out for a while or if they have not yet decided to leave prostitution permanently. As a result, they hardly get the chance to be in a calm and loving environment in which they can think about how they want to shape the future, what other possibilities there are and how they can achieve these. The Overweeghuis offers temporary, accessible 24-hour (crisis) care with as few rules as possible. To ensure the approachability, there are a few volunteers who contribute to safety in and around the house's immediate surroundings. During the stay, they stop working within prostitution; however, drug use is allowed in a controlled manner. The aim is to unwind and give space to the contemplation process.

Job tasks and duties
A volunteer hostess is present in the Overweeghuis 24 hours a day, spread over 4 shifts. In your shift, you are the 'safety net' for the 5-6 residents at that time, in practical and mental form. Your role changes from neighbour, friend to sometimes the 'mother'.
All the volunteers are female and range from psychology student to pensioner, but all with a heart for people.
Your tasks:
- As a hostess, you are the point of contact for the residents during your shift.
- You will have a cup of coffee with them, be a listening ear.
- Make sure there is a good atmosphere and safety in the house.
- In addition, you support the women where necessary with small matters such as job applications, household matters in the house.
- In the afternoon shift there is room for creating an activity/daytime activity.
- In the evening shift, you will be responsible for preparing meals together with the residents.
Time commitment:
We require at least 1 shift per week. You can schedule your own shifts in our planning system. The times of the shifts are as follows:
- Morning 09:00-13:00
- In the afternoon 13:00-17:00
- Evening 17:00-22:00
- Night 22:00-09:00
Minimum education level: mbo
Job skills and qualities
- Be a real people person (be friendly, reliable, patient and able to create atmosphere).
- To be involved (to have empathy).
- Self-confidence (staying calm in emergencies, keeping an overview).
- Solid footing and clear boundaries.
- Ready to learn and able to receive feedback.
- Able to think broadly.
