The Zijlen has not only professionals but also over five hundred volunteers. They play a very important role in the lives of people with mental disabilities. Volunteers have all the attention and time they need for the resident. Thanks to them, they gain new experiences. This expands the world of both client and volunteer.
Job tasks and duties
We support people with intellectual disabilities to live their lives. To be able to be who you are in a familiar environment is what we stand for. We are curious about the cliënts' wishes and make a plan together on how we support that. By helping, doing, encouraging, showing new things, but also accepting when things don't work out. We always work together with the clients and the people who are important to them. In this way, we contribute to a pleasant living and housing environment and a meaningful fulfillment of the day.
We are looking for several buddies.
Job skills and qualities
The interests of both parties are taken into account.
- One volunteer visits or the client visits the volunteer.
- Another goes shopping or to an activity.
- It may also involve cycling, fishing or crafts together.
You can volunteer for an hour once a week or once a month.
This depends on the amount of time you want to put in.
Volunteering is available during the day or in the evenings.

- All volunteers can count on guidance from De Zijlen.
- Travel expenses are covered and your insurance is also taken care of.
