This weekly hour of language support makes a world of difference in the lives of these children who have a home language other than Dutch. They have a language delay. Through your hour of help, you help them to be able to participate. Language is the key to contact and the future.
Job tasks and duties
As a reading volunteer for Humanitas, you will visit this family for an hour every week, who are not yet very good at the Dutch language. The mother has a different mother tongue than Dutch. Since the mother of the family works full-time during the week, there is only time for the reading hour in the weekend. This is a small-housed family.
Minimum education level: pre-university secondary education (havo/vwo)

Job skills and qualities
The main thing is that you have an interest in language and young children. This concerns a 5-year-old boy. He has a lot of difficulty remembering words. So as a reading aloud volunteer, it is important that you keep it fun and light-hearted and ensure that it is an enjoyable experience to be involved with language. His little sister will start primary school after the summer holidays. Mother has asked if she can join then too. With us, it's about language fun and sociability. You talk with the children, play games, sing songs and read from picture books. Maybe you can also draw a picture together. Actually, everything is language.
