COC Groningen & Drenthe actively promotes a diverse and inclusive society. We connect the rainbow movement and advocate for emancipation, acceptance, and equal rights for LGBTQ+ people in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. Through its working groups, COC reaches a wide variety of target groups, from transgender youth to LGBTQ+ seniors, and from people with disabilities to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and New Dutch citizens. We also maintain regular contact with municipalities and other advocacy groups in the northern provinces. We contribute to policy on youth and senior citizens, safety, and how to promote tolerance towards the LGBTQ+ community.
COC Groningen & Drenthe is managed by a volunteer board, staffed by more than sixty volunteers who form the heart of the organization and organize meetings and activities for various target groups in working groups.
Job tasks and duties
Responsibilities of the general board member:
- You organize and coordinate various activities.
- You maintain contact with the various working groups within COC Groningen & Drenthe.
- You participate in board and member meetings.
The general board member, together with other general board members, the chair, secretary, and treasurer, forms the association's board. The board is supported and advised by a project and association coordinator. In this role, the general board member maintains contact with all levels within the association, COC Netherlands, fellow COC associations, and other social organizations, such as politicians and the media.
Job skills and qualities
You recognize yourself in the following:
- You belong to the COC's target groups or have an affinity with them, and are a member of the association or willing to become one.
- You identify with the association's vision, mission, and objectives.
- You have at least a higher professional education (HBO) degree and/or experience in a similar position or relevant professional experience.
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- You are enthusiastic, collegial, and collaborative.
Extra information
This board position requires approximately 4-8 hours per week (approximately). You can schedule your time yourself, but as a board member, you are available for necessary meetings and gatherings, including at the national level. Board meetings are biweekly, usually in the evenings and on location in Groningen. The position is unpaid. Travel and expenses are reimbursed according to the association's expense policy.
