- You'll create a familiar and relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and heard.
- You'll make a difference for people who love to read and need connection.
- You'll develop conversational skills and gain new perspectives.
Job tasks and duties
You will lead a reading club that meets monthly. The emphasis is not on literary analysis, but on exchanging thoughts, feelings, and associations evoked by the book. Guests read at home and discuss excerpts or themes together. Your responsibilities include:
- Preparing and facilitating the meetings (for example, with reading questions or discussion formats).
- Encouraging open discussion in which everyone can contribute in their own way.
- Supporting guests in expressing their thoughts and experiences.
- Reflecting on and suggesting new books or reading themes (in consultation with the group).
Job skills and qualities
You enjoy working with people and are a strong communicator. You're passionate about our charity. You're also interested in books and enjoy sharing them with others. Experience facilitating (small) groups is helpful, but not required.
Extra information
The Hamelhuys Foundation is the Center for Living with and After Cancer in Groningen and Assen. (Former) cancer patients and their loved ones can visit free of charge, without an appointment, for a cup of coffee, a chat, a listening ear, and activities that promote well-being. The center is partly run by (trained) volunteers. Activities, workshops, and lectures are held as needed. Our primary focus is on connecting with others in the same situation. Talking together, having a drink, participating in an activity, or simply being there for each other.
