The Hortus Botanicus Haren is more than just a beautiful garden: it is a lively place full of peace, nature and committed people. What many visitors don't know is that the Hortus runs on the efforts of more than 130 enthusiastic volunteers!
From young to old, with all kinds of backgrounds and talents; together they ensure that the gardens remain tended, visitors are welcomed and communication and creation continue to flow. A small, dedicated team of permanent staff is reinforced daily by these indispensable forces.
As a caretaker, you will become part of this team of volunteers and be an indispensable link in the daily organisation.
Job tasks and duties
- Host external companies such as suppliers, mechanics or maintenance parties.
- Fixing faults in the coffee machine(s) and minor technical maintenance.
- Able to use the hoover when necessary.
- Prepare rooms for meetings, gatherings and parties voos our hospitality team.
- Signalling minor technical problems and passing them on to the coordinator.
Job skills and qualities
We expect:
- You can be at the Hortus within 15 minutes travel time.
- You are handy and practical.
- Like to think along and can work independently.
- You are reliable and enjoy being part of a close-knit team of volunteers.
- Hospitable and friendly when dealing with visitors and suppliers.

- It is possible to coordinate your own rhythm and availability (4-8 hours per week).
