Are you someone who enjoys being in nature and marvelling at everything that lives? Do you enjoy thinking about how to convey this wonder to children and adults? The Hortus Botanicus Haren is looking for an education officer, who will further shape an educational programme together with the Education Coordinator. This programme will be carried by volunteers and we are looking for someone who will also participate in supervising education activities aimed at experiential knowledge transfer.
Job tasks and duties
Together with the Education Coordinator:
- Develop an education programme
- Develop, organise and carry out public activities
- Schedule and supervise school classes during their visit
- Supervise pupil and student assignments
- You recruit and supervise volunteers
- In addition:
- Work with a team of volunteers on lessons for primary and secondary students
- Build collaborations with green organisations and educational institutions
- Seek external funds for activities where necessary
Job skills and qualities
You do not need to be a botany expert, enthusiasm and commitment are most important.
Knowledge of plants and animals in context
Liking to work with children and young people
Encouraging children to look for themselves, ask questions and discover
Being a sparring partner for the Education Coordinator
