As a volunteer at the Hamelhuys, you will supervise a creative afternoon for patients at the UMCG, which focuses on relaxation, distraction and fun. Together with the patients, you will be creatively involved in, for example, painting, crafts or card making.
What to expect:
- You will contribute to a relaxed and positive atmosphere for patients.
- You provide a low-threshold activity from which participants derive pleasure and peace.
- Your own ideas on the creative interpretation of the afternoon are encouraged.
- You make a real difference to patients' well-being during their stay.
- You gain valuable experience in guiding groups.
Job tasks and duties
You will accompany a creative activity of about 2 hours in the UMCG on the first Thursday afternoon every month. The activity focuses on relaxation and sociability. Experience or level of participants is not important. Your duties will include:
- Preparing and supervising the creative activity.
- Supporting and helping patients during the activity.
- Providing a listening ear.
Job skills and qualities
You enjoy working with people as well as being sociable and engaging. You have an affinity with creativity and can create a relaxed and open atmosphere. Experience in guiding groups is nice, but not necessary.

Foundation Hamelhuys is the centre for living with and after cancer in Groningen and Assen. (Former) cancer patients and their loved ones can drop by for a cup of coffee, a chat, a listening ear and activities that promote well-being, free of charge and without an appointment. The centre is partly run by (trained) volunteers. Activities, workshops and lectures are held as required. Our main focus is on contact between fellow sufferers. Talking together, having a drink, taking part in an activity or just being there for each other.
