Digital safety:
Online crime has unfortunately been on the rise for years, with victims regularly losing substantial amounts of money. For example, one in five people aged 55+ has been a victim of online scams at some point. The impact of online crime is huge, while victims are often ashamed and do not always report the scam. We want to break this through good education and conversations about digital safety.

Would you like to contribute to the digital resilience of your neighbourhood or village?
The municipality and WIJ Groningen are looking for volunteers who would like to help make their neighbourhood or village digitally safer. Initially, we are looking for people who want to be active in Haren and the surrounding area.

Job tasks and duties

As a Neighbourhood Ambassador for Digital Safety, you will bring attention to online crime in your neighbourhood or village by giving information sessions, among other things. In addition to information sessions, you are free to choose how this knowledge is shared (local newspaper, meetings, etc.). You teach residents to recognise online crime and give practical advice to prevent victimisation.

  • Providing information on current forms of online crime, which may involve working with partners such as the Forum, Seniorweb and Humanitas
  • .
  • Contacting and sharing knowledge with other neighbourhood Digital Safety Ambassadors
  • Keep up to date with current developments with help from the municipality and police
  • Providing practical advice to prevent victimisation of online crimes

Job skills and qualities

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer who would like to help neighbourhood or village residents become more digitally empowered.

  • Good communication skills
  • At ease with digital safety or interested in learning more about it
  • Basic knowledge of digital devices such as computers and smartphones
  • At least 4-10 hours per month available (by mutual agreement)
  • Motivation to help residents become more resilient against online crime

Extra information

As a Neighbourhood Digital Security Ambassador, you will have an informative and meaningful volunteer position with a lot of social urgency. You will receive:

  • A training to be trained as a Neighbourhood Digital Safety Ambassador based on your profile. You will learn about all current forms of online crime and the key organisations for residents
  • .
  • A valuable role within your own neighbourhood or village
  • Information material to use for e.g. information sessions
  • A network of other neighbourhood ambassadors and social organisations involved with whom knowledge and experiences can be shared
  • Actual information from police and municipality on online crime
