Support autism support group for young adults

Stichting Sedna Herstelacademie • job opening nr. 14764

Interesting about this job

Do you have an affinity with autism (ASD) and young adults? Do you think it would be valuable to join a group in which there is room for recognition, exchange and connection?
Then we offer a great volunteer position for you from Sedna Recovery Academy.

You contribute to a place where young adults with autism can be themselves, share their concerns and questions and feel less alone. The group is recovery supportive and we work on an equal basis: everyone can be themselves and contribute, including you as a supervisor.

As a co-supervisor you are close to an experienced supervisor. You are not only a supervisor, but – if you wish – also a participant. There is room to share from your own experience, connect and explore together what is supportive for the group.

It is a role in which you:

  • Have meaningful contact.
  • Contributes to a safe and open atmosphere.
  • Shaping the meetings together with the group.
  • You can also grow and learn yourself.

Job tasks and duties

  • Facilitating group meetings together with an experienced supervisor.
  • Creating a safe, calm and open atmosphere.
  • Supporting group discussions (listening, giving space, sometimes offering direction).
  • Do activities together, such as games or thematic exchange.
  • Matching the needs of the group (we follow, we don't direct).
  • If appropriate: share your own experiences and insights surrounding autism.
  • Optional: welcome new participants or fulfill a buddy role.

Job skills and qualities

We are looking for someone who:

  • Have an affinity with autism / ASD (personally or professionally).
  • Is calm, patient and reliable.
  • Can listen well and leave space.
  • Communicates carefully and clearly.
  • Is aware of equality in contact (recovery support).
  • Enjoys working together and coordinating with each other, as a team of supervisors and organization.
  • Own experience with autism and willingness to (partly) share this (if applicable).
  • Being able to guide a group discussion/dialogue.
  • Guiding a group discussion (providing light direction when necessary).
  • Being able to think along in a solution-oriented manner.

Extra information

  • The group is self-organizing as much as possible: we connect with what is going on.
  • You are not alone; you guide together with an experienced supervisor.
  • There is room to shape the role in your own way, in line with who you are.
  • In addition to guidance, it is possible to also think about growing the group and making it visible.
  • Optional; part of the organization, recruitment, promotion, networking, etc.
