In the large garden of our nursing home there is an aviary housing zebra finches, parakeets and canaries. The birds - as well as the goats and sheep, which reside in the garden - bring a lot of joy to our residents. The daily care of the birds is already done by volunteers. In doing so, we find that regularly something 'more' is needed, especially the knowledge and skills of keeping birds in an aviary.
Do you have knowledge about keeping and maintaining an aviary? And/or about the birds that live in it? Then this might be for you!
Job tasks and duties
- Giving advice on keeping and caring for birds in an aviary.
- Reminding volunteers about the effect of changing weather on bird care. Or enjoy going to 't Blauwbörgje yourself and e.g. turning a heat lamp on or off.
- Help with cleaning the aviary. That means twice a year the 'big clean' (replacing sawdust) and doing some maintenance in between.
- Give us information when something changes in the aviary, or enjoy looking up the information.
Job skills and qualities
- You love animals and especially birds
- You have knowledge about (singing) birds and/or an aviary, and/or you enjoy looking it up
- You can cooperate and explain
- You don't mind rolling up your sleeves from time to time
- You like the idea of indirectly helping our residents (especially elderly people with dementia) with volunteering
