Adults and children learning Dutch as a second language or who are low-literate benefit from reading together. It helps them to practise language in a fun and accessible way. For children, it is especially a relaxing moment after a busy school day.
Job tasks and duties
We are looking for volunteers who have time to read together with a child or parent. You can do this one-on-one or in a small group, whatever you prefer. You can read anything: a book, magazine, short story or even the rules of a game, which you can play together. This is not about reading aloud, but about reading comprehensively and having fun. Reading material is available, but going to the library together to pick out a nice book is also an option. After a bit of reading, you discuss together what you have read.
Reading takes place at the Vensterschool in Selwerd. The days and times are flexible and discussable. For the children, after 14:00 is fine because of school. On the other hand, the parents prefer reading before 14:00 so they can pick up their children afterwards.
Job skills and qualities
- You enjoy reading together.
- You are sociable and enjoy chatting with others.
- You are patient and enjoy working with language.
- Experience is not necessary; motivation is!
