Working with the target group is very special and addictive! We also work with a fantastic group of volunteers, who are very open to new volunteers.
Job tasks and duties
During one week in the months of June, July or August, you will work intensively with our experienced volunteers and the professionals in our shelter. During the week you are active as a summer volunteer, you will rotate 6 or 7 opening hours. In consultation, it is possible to work only the mornings, afternoons or evenings for more weeks. During your week, you will be introduced to all aspects of the work through an introductory programme. An information evening for interested parties will be organised in May.
The day care centre De Spilsluizen is a safe place where homeless people find peace, warmth and attention. They come in daily for a chat, drinks and food. Once a week, we serve a hot meal. In addition to homelessness, problems such as addiction, psychiatry and loneliness come into play. Visitors and volunteers can find each other on the basis of equality.
Besides volunteers, there are also professionals working at De Spilsluizen.
Our volunteers are trained in a number of tasks: bar duties, such as pouring coffee/tea, preparing sandwiches and serving soup. Having a chat with the visitors is also very valuable and they can certainly appreciate a game at times!
In the corridor, volunteers register who comes in and hand out mail to people who request it. They also hand out clothes to those who need them.

Extra information
After you have signed up as a summer volunteer, an introductory interview will follow. In May there is an information evening for a large group of interested people, during which we will get to know each other and potential summer volunteers are introduced to the building and the organisation. In addition, we will tell something about the target group and the work. If there is a click on both sides, we will make arrangements for your summer volunteer week.
We are open 7 days a week, both mornings, afternoons and some evenings. A volunteer shift lasts from 3 (evenings) to 4 (mornings and afternoons) hours.
