Working with homeless people is very special, educational and addictive! You also work with a fantastic team of enthusiastic volunteers and collaborate with professionals to create a good atmosphere in the daycare.
Job tasks and duties
The day shelter The Spilsluizen is a safe place, where homeless people find peace, warmth and attention. They come in daily for a chat, drink and food. Once a week, we serve a hot meal. In addition to homelessness, problems such as addiction, psychiatry and loneliness come into play. Visitors and volunteers can find each other on the basis of equality.
Besides volunteers, professionals also work at The Spilsluizen.
Our volunteers are trained in a number of tasks: bar duties, such as pouring coffee/tea, preparing sandwiches and ladling soup. Having a chat with the visitors is also very valuable and they can certainly appreciate a game at times!
In the corridor, volunteers register who comes in and hand out mail to people who request it. They also hand out clothes to those who need them.

Extra information
After you have signed up as a new volunteer, an introductory interview will follow. If it clicks on both sides, we will make arrangements and you will be offered an induction programme. During this training period, you will join a team of experienced volunteers. After a few weeks, we evaluate how it went. If we are still enthusiastic on both sides, you are welcome to join our permanent team of volunteers. A volunteer shift lasts 3 to 4 hours.
