Interesting about this job

"Being a sniffer volunteer is fantastic! You can really teach children something through the interaction with your dog. The cooperation with your own dog makes it the ideal volunteer work for me and on top of that, you contribute to our society. In short, voluntary work that is fulfilling!" – Ilja Moll
"Even if there were only ééone child who is not bitten by a dog, my years of commitment to the Sophia SnuffelCollege have already paid off." –Dorette Stöveken

Job tasks and duties

Do you have a social, obedient and child-friendly dog?

And do you like being in front of the classroom? Then working as a volunteer for the Sophia Sniffer College might be something for you! Together with your dog, you will visit the lowest groups of primary schools to teach children on how to handle dogs safely. That way, the number of dog bites in children can be reduced and fear of dogs decreases. Moreover, the Sophia SnuffleCollege contributes to greater understanding and respect for dogs and other animals. The Sophia SnuffleCollege is a project of the Queen Sophia Society for the Protection of Animals.

The Sophia Snuffle College consists of three weekly lessons of 30 to 45 minutes. In the first lesson, you will introduce the children to a hand puppet. During the second and third lesson, your dog comes into the classroom with you and the theory is put into practice. How can you tell if a dog is angry, or sad? When can you pet a dog and when is it better to leave it alone? In a playful manner, you explain the most important rules for dealing with dogs. You let the children practice stroking, brushing and giving treats. Afterwards, everyone receives a Snuffle diploma and a workbook with games and information for parents.
