Thanks to a global network of YFU organisations, more than 260,000 exchange students and host families, in some 50 countries, have already been able to experience another culture from the inside. As a result, they also look at their own culture with different eyes.
Job tasks and duties
Make the world your home: become a host family of a foreign student! Every year, dozens of foreign schoolchildren come to the Netherlands to get acquainted with our family life, language and culture. They attend a school year/semester at a regular secondary school.
For these pupils, YFU is looking for enthusiastic host families willing to set up their homes and hearts. At the same time, your family gets to know your host child's culture; a foreign perspective makes you look differently at your own habits. Especially for families with young children, having an older guest sibling from another country is a very special experience. Above all, a friendship for life is born this way.
Job skills and qualities
- You would like to share your life and culture with another person.
- The guest child is not a visitor, but participates in daily family life.
- We require board and lodging from you; the pupil is responsible for all personal expenses, such as pocket, clothing and school fees.
- Where you live or how much space is available is of less importance.
- As ééone of our host mothers says: if you have space in your heart, you will always find space in your home!
Extra information
Who are our schoolchildren? The pupils are aged between 15 and 18 and come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. A host family chooses which host child best suits the family situation based on interests, hobbies’s and character.
Who are our host families? Our host families are diverse; we do not exclude anyone in advance. You are a (één-parent) family (with/without children). In addition, you are interested in other cultures and can motivate young people.
